Launch of the new automated Virus Filtration Controller for increased efficiency and flexibility in virus filtration

Asahi Kasei Bioprocess, Inc. unveiled the new standard Virus Filtration Controller equipped to remove viruses from biopharmaceuticals and plasma derivatives. The Virus Filtration Controller is a robust system that performs automated, consistent virus-removal using Planova™ filters for pilot, clinical, and commercial-scale manufacturing. The modest footprint of 864 mm x 686 mm (34" x 27") accommodates the majority of downstream processing facilities. Similarly, new features such as built-in vertical Visual Leak Testing coupled with customary virus filtration operations such as equilibration, filtration, and washing elevate Planova™ functionality to unprecedented levels.

Changing the landscape of virus filtration

Large filtration systems are no longer conducive to biologics manufacturing plants faced with limited floor space. Simultaneously, virus removal during downstream processing has become increasingly more complex given the unique requirements of individual candidate molecules. The Virus Filtration Controller addresses these needs by offering:

  • An intuitive, touch-screen automation platform that requires minimal training
  • Safe, efficient virus-removal compatible with three separate configurations
  • The ability to accommodate pressurized feeds and feeds from single-use bags
  • The flexibility to process batch sizes between 20 L and 1,000 L
