Notice of the availability of 4.0 m2 Planova™ S20N – next generation regenerated cellulose virus removal filters

Asahi Kasei Medical Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Ken Shinomiya) is pleased to announce that 4.0 m2 Planova™ S20N virus removal filters, the manufacturing-scale size of our newest filter made from next generation regenerated cellulose, will be available from July 2024.
Planova virus removal filters, made of cellulose hollow fibers, were developed in 1989 to answer the need for a method to remove viruses from biotherapeutics. And for over 30 years, Planova has contributed to the viral safety of biotherapeutics, and is recognized and trusted within the biopharmaceutical industry for reliable quality and superior performance.
With its next generation regenerated cellulose membrane, we developed Planova S20N virus removal filters with an aim to bring newer innovation to our product line-up. Planova S20N virus removal filters further build on the strengths of Planova through higher flux for various types of biotherapeutics, robust virus removal, and improved usability by simplifying the post-use integrity test.
Since the launch of Planova S20N virus removal filters in October 2022, we have received the support of many customers, all who have praised the performance and operational ease of the filters. We had initially offered sizes ranging from 0.001 m2 to 1.0 m2, but at the request of numerous customers for a manufacturing-scale size, we have decided to add the 4.0 m2 to the Planova S20N product line-up.
By offering Planova S20N virus removal filters in sizes from laboratory- to manufacturing-scale, Asahi Kasei Medical endeavors to continue to help biologics manufacturers safely and efficiently produce medicines that patients can trust.
