Planova™ FG1 Virus Removal Filters

Promise of Unrivaled Performance

Planova™ FG1 was developed to maximize productivity in biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes. Featuring unrivaled rapid filtration, this filter significantly reduces virus filtration time. Even in the event of process interruptions, it maintains robust virus removal performance, achieving an optimal balance of rapid filtration and reliable virus removal capability—two essential qualities for virus removal filters.
  • Rapid filtration enabling highly efficient processing
  • Reliable solution for consistent virus removal
  • Compatibility with CIP (NaOH) and SIP methods

Features

Rapid filtration enabling highly efficient processing

Planova FG1 showed >1,000 LMH initial flux at 343 kPa.

Reliable solution for consistent virus removal

Planova FG1 can consistently achieve high virus removal capability, even during extended process pauses. Furthermore, complete clearance can be achieved even with a 120 minutes process pause.

Compatibility with CIP (NaOH) and SIP methods

Planova FG1 can withstand a single treatment of either CIP (≤0.5 N NaOH, 20 h) or SIP (≤132 ℃, 30 min).
There was no difference in water flux before and after CIP/SIP.
Table shows change in water flux after CIP (NaOH) and SIP
To demonstrate that CIP or SIP does not affect filter performance, exaggerated CIP/SIP treatment was tested.
  • CIP treatment: Three cycles of the following CIP treatment: 2 h of filtration with recirculation and 18 h of soak with 1 N NaOH
  • SIP treatment: Three cycles of the following SIP treatment: 134 ℃ for 30 min

Integrity Testing

Integrity testing of Planova FG1 filters is performed to confirm the integrity of filters used during filtration.
Because the hydrophilic modified polyethersulfone (PES) membrane used in Planova FG1 offers high mechanical strength, the integrity test is simplified.

The leakage test is conducted pre-use and post-use to confirm that the filter is free from gross defects such as pinholes and other membrane damage.

  • Pre-use: Detect defects that may have occurred during shipping
  • Post-use: Detect defects that may have developed during filtration
